Chronological Timeline

• September 9, 1878: Born in Cebu City to an unmarried mother..

• 1901–1906: Served as the provincial fiscal (prosecutor) and was elected Governor of Cebu.

• 1907: Founded the Nacionalista Party and was elected as the first Speaker of the Philippine Assembly.

• 1907–1922: Held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, guiding early American-era legislative autonomy

• 1923: Elected to the Philippine Senate, later serving as Senate President pro tempore.

• August 1, 1944: Succeeded to the Presidency after President Quezon passed away in the United States.

• October 1944: Returned to the Philippines with General Douglas MacArthur, landing in Leyte to oversee the liberation of the country.

• September 1, 1945: Civil administration of the Philippines was officially turned over to President Osmeña by the US Army.

• September 25, 1945: Established the Philippine People’s Court to try wartime collaborators.

• April 23, 1946: Lost the presidential election to Manuel Roxas due to a split in the Nacionalista party (leading to the creation of the Liberal Party).

• October 19, 1961: Passed away at the age of 83.
